    古护城河宽30丈深3丈

     

     

    据华南师大地理系曾昭璇教授介绍，历史上广州的护城河规模非常大，宽30丈，深3丈，明清时期的东濠涌可以从濠口开船到黄华塘（今黄花村），西濠涌可以从入江口开船到今天西山大码头，即第一津。

        记者从广州地方志办公室陈泽泓副主任处了解到，目前的东濠涌仍然可以开船进去，只是因为水位和污染的原因，而无船进入。而现在东濠涌的宽度仅相当于原来的三分之一，所以护城河在古代确实是一个重要的运输渠道。
